Harvest Breakfast 2022

A beloved autumnal tradition will soon be here once more. On Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 8 a.m. to noon, Central Market Lancaster will once again host their annual Harvest Breakfast — a morning full of delicious fall flavors, time with friends and neighbors, and plenty of pumpkins

For more than two decades, a number of Central Market standholders have offered autumn-inspired specials on the first Saturday of October—including the Lancaster Salad Company’s famous cinnamon swirl French toast, made with freshly-baked cinnamon swirl bread from Ric's Bread, served with savory sausage links.

“It's very important for us to use as many ingredients as possible that are sourced from our Market neighbors,” shared Aimee Johnsonbaugh, owner of Lancaster Salad Company, a member of the Central Market Standholder Association, and a Harvest Breakfast organizer. “We have been serving the French toast for years, and it is always very popular!”

Johnsonbaugh counts the annual event as her favorite of the year. “As a standholder, it has always been the one time every year that we can serve something that we may not normally serve at our stand,” she shared. “It’s a great way to introduce the community to Market and give people the opportunity to try something they may not have had before.”

Standholders set up shop in Market Alley each year. Event attendees can purchase their breakfast directly from each pop-up, and then enjoy with their neighbors at long tables set up outdoors. This year, you can expect to sample breakfast burritos, turkey sausage sandwiches, waffles — and so many more fall-inspired favorites.

“Harvest Breakfast is the biggest event that the Central Market Standholders Association puts on every year,” Johnsonbaugh said. “We have been doing so for 20+ years, so people always know that the first Saturday in October, we will be out on Market Street serving up freshly prepared breakfast foods utilizing the highest quality ingredients from Market.”

And more than just delicious food is on the menu at Harvest Breakfast

“It's also very important to us to provide free children's activities during the event,” explained Johnsonbaugh. “We started out just offering pumpkin painting with pumpkins that were generously donated by standholders, and have now expanded to include face painting, balloon animals, a baby goat petting area, and this year for the first time we will have a sketch artist doing live sketches of kids, families, etc. that our guests will be able to take home with them.”

Johnsonbaugh continued, “We want to create a family-friendly event that everyone in our community can enjoy!”

Food, fun, and community — Melissa Siwiec, executive director of the Central Market Trust, sees a morning enjoyed at Harvest Breakfast as “time well spent” each year.

“Harvest Breakfast is a great way for standholders to provide fall specials or show off their culinary skills,” Siwiec shared. “It's a wonderful way to celebrate the fresh food culture and sense of community that Lancaster is known for!”
