Empowering People One Sip At A Time

Dr. Lydia Baird

Come together with local organizations, non-profits, small business owners, and social entrepreneurs at the 15th annual Gifts that Give Hope Alternative Gift Fair on Sunday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Farm & Home Center (1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster)

After spending some time getting to know the many incredible folks working to make a difference in our community — both locally and around the world — grab a delicious snack or meal from the fair’s one-of-a-kind, community-oriented food vendors.

Meet Dr. Lydia Baird, DMD, who will be selling her healing Power Broths at the gift fair — with a portion of her profits to benefit North Star Initiative.

What are Power Broths?

Power Broths is an organic bone broth company that seeks to empower you to empower human trafficking survivors one sip at a time. Our goal is to create drinkable broths to improve your gut, skin, hair, nail, and overall health. It is especially helpful for women who are postpartum and need to replenish their bodies' nutrients after giving birth.

The idea for Power Broths, LLC, started from my own journey of pregnancies, postpartum care and nutrition, and my current health. I realized that not everyone has the benefit of having a Chinese mother that lovingly tries to nourish you with traditional, healthy, and delicious foods and broths at every turn postpartum. It's amazing to have that blessing, and Power Broths was born as my way of paying it forward to those who don't have a fabulous Chinese mother that cooks for them after they give birth.

And just to let you know—this amazing bone broth drink isn't just for postpartum moms! It's for the person that is tired of drinking sugared-up "electrolyte" drinks at the gym. It's for the working person that needs a little pick-me-up that's not caffeinated at 2 p.m. You can drink it or you can cook with it… or you can do both!

Just don't forget to share it with your family and friends! You might be tempted to drink it all by yourself.

My secondary goal is to provide monetary support through Power Broths for an amazing local anti-human trafficking organization called North Star Initiative. A part of the profits will be given to support them in their mission of rescuing, reviving, and restoring women survivors coming out of sex trafficking. Every Power Broths sip you take empowers women to experience freedom and wholeness for the first time in many years.

What can people expect from your broths, and what sets you apart?

We support North Star Initiative, a local non-profit that provides a safe restoration haven for women coming out of trafficking.

We also strive to use local, grass-fed, pasture-raised, humanely-treated animals for our non-vegetarian broths. For our vegetarian broths, we use quality ingredients to provide the same gelling effect.

What was your path to opening your business?

A very slow one! The idea started back in the fall of 2020, and now we are selling through our website and through Lemon Street Market.

Why are you excited to participate in the Gifts that Give Hope Gift Fair this year?

I love the idea of being part of a fair that is not about materialistic consumerism but about loving your neighbor and creating a world where products are benefiting individuals, instead of hurting our communities.

The big one: Why do you do what you do — what is your driving purpose behind Power Broths?

I do this because I feel called to do it. I do this because I believe our products actually help provide delicious building blocks to help your body repair itself from life stress. I do this because it benefits the beautiful trafficking survivors of the North Star Initiative.

Additional food vendors at this year’s Gifts that Give Hope Alternative Gift Fair will include Homage, Stroopies, Isabelle Cuisine, Cafe 301, Gourmet Julie’s Way, and Walk-O Taco.
