Gracie’s On West Main

By Crystal Laureano

We’re back with another feature from our coffee-themed calendar, and this time we’re talking about Gracie’s on West Main!  Walking in the doors of Gracie’s on West Main is an absolute treat!  It has been quite a bit since my first visit, but I am always overwhelmed by the kindness shown by everyone working there.  If you are unfamiliar with Gracie’s, their story is inspiring.  As newlyweds, Jim and Gracie looked at a quaint cafe and they fell in love with it.  Through hard work, warm welcomes to every customer, and delicious food they grew not only their customer base but also the cafe.  They were able to make changes each year adding more seating, and then in 2019, they made a large renovation creating the 160-seat full-service restaurant we know and love today!

On my visit to Gracie’s, I wanted to try their coffee without consuming copious amounts of caffeine (I have tried this once, but I do not recommend it), and they did not disappoint!  There is a seasonal drink flight that they offer, which is perfect for someone like me.  My flight consisted of their iced pumpkin chai, s’mores hot cocoa, hot maple spice latte, and nitro cold brew with Bailey’s flavored cream.  The mini size was perfect to sample multiple drinks at once or to share with a friend, without breaking the budget or making you buzz around all day from being over-caffeinated–if that is even a thing.  We also ordered an iced maple spice chai latte (this was custom-ordered) and it was delicious!

As you know, we were on an adventure to try all of the coffee, but the food.  THE FOOD! I am still dreaming of my breakfast grilled cheese!  Their menu has so many delicious options, that I am still not entirely sure how I made a decision if I am being honest.  But, I settled on the breakfast grilled cheese with bacon jam.  I feel like we need to pause for a moment of silence because of how incredible this sandwich was.  Toasted sourdough, cheddar and American cheese, bacon jam, and two over-easy eggs are what made this incredible sandwich I never knew I needed.  Honestly, if you go, please order this and report back how life-changing it was!  But, if you didn’t guess from the bacon jam, Gracie’s is known for their bacon! They feature a bacon menu with seven different options, so this is definitely the place to be if you’re a bacon lover.  They also have sweet breakfast items, such as Belgium waffles, and baked goods to take home.  They’re also open for lunch and dinner most days, so not to worry if you are not able to make it in the morning.

Lastly, I have to give a shout-out to our server, Deanna!  She was so full of joy, super friendly, had amazing recommendations, and made sure that the flight looked perfect since she knew I was there to write a blog about Gracie’s. I loved how she took the time to converse with us even though she had other tables to wait on.  She never made us feel rushed or that our questions were an inconvenience to her.  Everyone we encountered there was beyond kind, but she went above and beyond and made us feel comfortable and welcome and really made an impression on us.  Thank you, Deanna!

So to wrap this up, my conclusion is that Gracie’s is a must-try (and repeat)! Their food and drink menu has something for everyone.  Their drink specials ranged from lattes to kombucha, to fresh juice, and this usually features their seasonal drink flavors which are always a can’t miss in my mind. The food menu, while they show their love of bacon, has options for everyone whether you eat meat or not.  Overall, you can just feel the love and hard work that has been poured into Gracie’s to make it what it is today.  From the atmosphere to the employees that didn’t seem to be dreading their day at work you can tell this is a good place to be.  So keep doing what you’re doing, Gracie and Jim, and just know you’ve got a fan for life over here!  At Food is Love Lancaster, Gracie’s is the December feature of the new coffee-themed calendar, which is on sale now!
