A Taste of Lititz
With the smell of freshly spun cotton candy in the air, a gentle breeze blowing down E. Main Street, and a plethora of delicious options for dinner, the town of Lititz turned out en masse for their beloved annual culinary block party, Taste of Lititz.
We started our evening with a toast to the beautiful summer night we were about to enjoy — and what better drink to toast with than a “faux-jito”? We loved this delicious mocktail version of a classic mojito from Scooter’s Restaurant & Bar. To round out our order, we added on some of their loaded queso and tortilla chips and then found a quiet bench to people-watch as the event began in earnest.
Next up on our culinary exploration of Lititz—and already a favorite from previous visits to their brick-and-mortar restaurant—a charred avocado from the folks at Blackworth Live Fire Grill. A fresh and perfectly ripe avocado topped with aji verde, lime dressing, and puffed wild rice for a bit of crunch. You have to check out this vegetarian gem next time you’re in town.
A pop into Aaron’s Books—a “family-owned, fiercely independent, community-minded” bookshop that opened in 2005—and we ran into a familiar face: Jennifer Oehme Knepper, author of Food is Love, who was signing copies of her book and chatting with neighbors and friends.
“I grew up here in Lititz and it’s so nice to see people out and about,” Knepper shared. “You can just tell that people are excited to be out milling around, supporting local, and eating different foods. It’s nice to be back in Lititz, and to connect with the Lititz community.”
Live music drifted through the air as we walked down the center of E. Main Street. As the event grew busier and busier, the joy on folks' faces was apparent—brought together over food, to support local restaurants and businesses, and enjoy an evening together.
Taste of Lititz is, “a block party that celebrates all that makes Lititz great,” and after spending a few hours wandering this annual event for the first time, it’s easy to see why locals and visitors alike excitedly turn out for this special start to summer year after year.
We’ll certainly be back next year for more of those soft pretzels.
